Oh dear.

The blog may be dead but Paris is not. It most definitely is not summer anymore (Last night I wore pajamas and a hoodie to bed) but I'm looking forward to the cold months ahead.
They're isn't as many trees here as in Dublin so there is less opportunity for crunching through leaves.

October is a busy month in Paris. Fashion week started on Saturday which means lots of beautiful people (even more than usual) will be wandering the rues.
Nuit Blanches is on 4th October. During the night/early morning, random pieces of art in different places will be on display throughout the city.

Watching interviews with Sarah Palin has proved to be frightening. Her knowledge (or lack there of) of important issues is shocking.
I can't wait to see the debate between her and Obamas VP next month.

That's all for now...

Sunday

Brilliant!

The Grace Kelly exhibition was amazing. I, of course, bought a poster of herself! The queue was ridiculous though. People are taking advantage of the fact that it's a free exhib so we were waiting for at least 2 hours outside... In the sun... with no sunblock on. Uh oh!

Saturday

It's Saturday Morning

I have nothing but good intentions for the next week or so. Lots of outings, lots of lunching lots of reading.
This morning we're going to see a Grace Kelly exhibition for free in La Hotel de Ville. I'm excited! Then possibly a haircut, a night out in a castle in Bois de Boulogne, who knows!
I have some photos I'd like to put up but haven't got the time now so I'll leave you with one. I found this while I was searching for American Apparel the other day. There is one less than 5 minutes cycle from the apartment!

I like finding things like this on the streets. I think I can definitely say I'm still a tourist, maybe 5% parisienne? I do find myself getting angry on the metro more and more. A rite of passage some might say.

Thursday

Thanks to a torrential downpour this morning, we decided not to go to the gardens. I thought it was never going to stop last night.

Wednesday

Can't believe it's August! Paris is sooo quiet at the moment. I was in one of my fave vintage shops today and I was the only person it what is usually a crowded store. The metro is even dead these days. Had great fun with my Mum, ate in restaurants that aren't really in my price range (Thanks ma!) and had fun showing her the Paris I've come to know over the summer!

Found a roommate for the vacant room which is very exciting, think the Autumn/Winter will be fun!
Even though it's ridiculously warm at the moment, I've started thinking about winter wardrobe already! The thought of wool jumpers makes me feel horrible but I can't wait until it's time to be all cosy!
Am going to Claude Monet's gardens tomorrow, weee! I love the city but I think I need a small break, I haven't been out of Paris city in two months. The gardens are meant to be lovely and hopefully it won't be too busy.

My august resolution is to update this every day... let's see how I get on!

Friday

In a few short hours (Don't let me down, Aer Lingus) my Mum will be in Paris for 4 days! I can't wait to bring her everywhere, eat in the places I love, walk around the streets and soak up the sun!
Someone else is in Paris today, but unfortunately I don't think we'll be having dinner together.

Wednesday

Ended up staying in instead of going to see Lost in Translation... don't really like Scarlett Johansson so no loss there. The new version of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory is playing next Tuesday so I think I'll go to that.

In other news....

Lyon. 4th September. Chris. Ma Disi. I CAN'T WAIT!!!

Tuesday

Cycling in Paris is so much fun. I bought a week long ticket for the Velibs, it was only 5euro. Every journey up to 30 minutes is free! Perfect for getting to places near by when I don't feel like walking or taking the metro. I haven't cycled in ages though so this sudden burst is taking its' toll on me, ma derrière is so sore!

There's an Outdoor cinema in Parc Villette during the summer so we're going to see Lost in Translation tonight. It's 2€ entry fee, and it's meant to be a nice evening (weather wise).

Monday

Fireworks on La Fete de BastilleSculpture at Musée Rodain
Velib
La Tour
Les Refuges in Montmartre
Fondue
Ice Cream by the Seine
La Louvre

Thursday

Random pictures coming soon.....
Bastille has come and gone. Regretfully, I slept in too late to go and watch the parade, so had to make do with tv footage instead. I didn't think he could get any scarier, but turns out that Sarkozy standing on a tank is a pretty disturbing image! He's going to Dublin next week to tell us to have a second referendum, quite cheeky of him.

I think I'll get a year long subscription for the Velib, it's only €29 which isn't bad. We went for a cycle along the canal yesterday. It really reminded me of the docklands in Dublin, nice places to eat there too. The beach starts next week. I hope the weather is good for it. It's really weird these days, hot and cold.

The days are flying by here, it's so easy to wander around for a day and feel like you've done nothing... in a good way, if that makes sense?
I read outside Shakespeare and Co for half an hour the other day. I found a cute little parc on the top of the Ile de La Cité! It's tiny, but sweet. I love Place Des Vosges but the grass is always quite dry.

Went to Museé Rodain last Sunday, the gardens are lovely and the sculptures even better. Anyone who is coming to visit soon (ah-hem, Mum)... I wouldn't say no to the August issues of Vogue and Vanity Fair.... :)

I bought Elle magazine the other day, featuring Carla Bruni (who else) on the cover. The pissed off looking salesman, took it from me and said "Bah, Carla. Encore!"!

Monday

So I basically stayed in on Friday and Saturday, trying to shake off my cold thing. Yesterday we went to La Louvre, for free. It's ridiculously big, and because it was free, it was very very busy. Got an ice cream from Amorino after and sat by the river. There was a bit of a breeze aswell, which was nice.
Wandered around Rue Mouffetard and Pantheon area today, then up to Montmartre.
I can't wait for visitors to start coming!

Whenever I eat somewhere, or walk down a different street, I'm always thinking about who I can show it to! Cheesey but true!

Friday

Found a cute little cafe along Canal St Martin... they do Mojitos (and various other cocktails) for €5. It's so nice to have one in the evening and people watch (my favourite pastime!).
The weather has been a bit Irish over the last few days, huge showers and the like.
I've got a cold/throat/ear thing which isn't too pleasant but it can't be helped. This weekend there's a music festival on in Paris so I think I'll be going to that on Friday evening, Saturday will be a day at the Mosque, and on Sunday the museums are free so we're going to tackle the Louvre!
It'll probably be very busy, but I want to take advantage of the Mayors generosity!

Happy 4th Ya'll!

Tuesday

Went up to Sacré Cœur this evening for a walk. The City Of Lights was looking a bit dark, but still pretty. We were sitting on the steps chatting when one of the girls (Known as Shaz to us!) saw a man stealing a bag from people a few steps in front of us. She ran after and grabbed him, and got the bag back! Very exciting stuff! The people weren't as grateful as they should have been. Montmarte can be such a paradox. It's so quiet in some areas, with lots of little bistros and small windy streets. Then you turn a corner and find miscreants like the thief or the Clichy area!

Took advantage of the €2 cinema today and went to see a film called Definitely, Maybe....... It was awful!
Going to see In Bruges tomorrow. It's about some Irish lads... who go to Bruges! Speaking of Irish lads, Brian Cowen is in Paris this week for some EU lark. France takes over the Presidency of the EU tomorrow so I think Sarkozy is going to (try) and sort us out! In a nod to this, La Tour Eiffel was light up with blue lights tonight, instead of its' usual yellow.... I prefer the yellow.

Saturday

Crêperie Suzette is a sweet little cafe that specialises in.... crepes and galettes. It's on a street that links the Marais area with Bastille, Rue des Francs Bourgeois. I had the most delicious galette there last week, with a Kir. New potatoes, bacon, cheese and cream with a pesto sauce. It was delectable! If you're coming to visit me, we'll probably go there. Or if you're ever in Paris, go!

For the next three days the cinema will be €2! Bargain! You'd never get such a thing in good aul overpriced Dublin. I'm definitely going to take advantage, especially as it's meant to be quite hot over the next week... Air-conditioning will be a God-send. Top of my list is the new Narnia. There's a film about the writer Francois Sagan (wrote Bonjour Tristesse among others) but I don't think I could handle drama without subtitles, we'll see.
It's quite a heavy day in Paris today, warm but cloudy. I think I'll take my book and head to a park for a bit. I need to buy a few things, and yes they are necessary!
The sales started last week and I resisted. I bought a scales for the kitchen though, which I needed. I'll probably have some ice-cream today. I'm on the lookout for violet or rose flavours.... Yum!
I had a peach and mint one last week courtesy of Berthillon. It's quite a touristy spot, but you can't not try it when in Paris.
Ok, I'm off - Bonne Journée!

Friday

I've definitely been living life in Paris, so much so that I've neglected this blog. Will try not to let it happen again. It's quite warm in the city these days, in the late 20s (or 70s if you're still using fahrenheit!) for most of the day and night. There's not much of a sea breeze like I'm used to back home (Don't worry mum, I'm wearing Factor 30!). The metro is a like a sweaty box. My line seems to be particularly bad. Last weekend was the Fete de la Musique to celebrate the solstice/first day of summer. There were loads of amateur bands playing in the street all around the city and the metros were running all through the night. People were drinking in the streets but in the Parisian way.... ie: not urinating/vomiting/arguing like it would be back in good old Dublin!

Spotted Mischa Barton (young american actress/model) wandering around Bastille the other day which was fun because I love the odd celeb here and there!

Most afternoons this week have been spent laying in the grass in Place Des Vosges and reading. It's a lovely area of Paris with lots of little creperies, bakeries, cafes.... Found a nice frozen yogurt place nearby which is good because I can justify eating frozen yogurt more than I can eating ice cream!

Sarkozy will be in Ireland soon I believe. He's going to 'sort out' the Lisbon treaty débâcle, so that'll be nice for them!

On Sunday afternoon we're going to the Mosque de Paris. They have a cafe there and also a hamman, which is like a spa. They do treatments like massages and rubs for about €15!! Bargain!
And they have mint tea for €1.52 a cup!

Monday

I haven't written in a week, that's not to say I haven't been busy.
I just didn't want to bore you of my trips to the supermarche, walks around my arrondisement, multiple plays of coldplays new album and the search for a new flatmate.

So I promise a far more interesting post soon......

Tuesday

I'm back and I'm tired. I've made my bed with brand new sheets (thanks mum) and unpacked all of my necessities... I now have 12 cardigans and 12 pairs of shoes here, perfect!
Frances' first appearance in the Euro 2008 cup was this afternoon. They drew nil all with Romania... I'm expecting a better outcome from the next match.

I have a lot of things to do tomorrow, so I've made a list. It's what I do best!

Saturday

It's nice to be home for a few days, but I'm already missing Paris!

Friday

Beavais airport is the worst place to be delayed.

[Insert many expletives here]

From now on it's CDG or nothing. I don't think I'll fly with Ryanair again, whatever about the delays not being their fault, it would be nice if I knew that when I finally got on the plane, I could enjoy my flight, but that's not going to happen.

Seriously, no more Ryanair.....
Well apart from my flight back on Monday.

And no, they don't have free WiFi areas. I had to shell out 10€ for 3 hours.... which isn't bad I suppose.

Thursday

Not that I don't enjoy my two frequent commenters, but I'd like to know who (if anyone) is reading this because it'll give me the discipline to update more!
YSLs funeral was pretty sad. Well obviously. I arrived just in time to see the coffin being taken into the church. There were a lot of people around. I noticed lots of women wearing suits, in homage to him I suppose. It was really sad, especially when Catherine Deneuve and his partner spoke. Everyone was crying (me included) and clapped when he finished. Although I don't think there's many macho french men.
Saw Sarkozy (maybe I am obsessed?!?) and herself, wearing a trouser suit of course! Didn't approve of him stroking her thigh during the service though.

RIP Yves

Wednesday

Yesterday seemed like a really long day for some reason. The weather has been kind of 'eh'. Warm, but not hot. I went to look at Eglise Saint Roch (where Yves funeral will be) and then to Galaries Lafayette and Printemps. The third roommate arrived last night, so we're all in the apartment now. They're really nice girls. Last night we went for drink in this bar in the 5th, it was used in some Cedric Kaplisch film so I want to see it now. It was really cool, kind of like what I imagined CBGBs to be like. Went to look for health food shops today because one of the girls is a vegetarian/coeliac, and we found one quite near us which is good! Then went to Saint Michel where we eat gelato and unsuccessfully tried to find posters to put in my room. I found a place that does violet ice cream! Very exciting. I also bought a basil plant in the marche for the windowsill. This is possibly more exciting than the violet ice cream. We're going up to Monmartre for a look around later, its a few minutes walk from the apartment which is cool!

Tomorrow we're going to get as close as we can to the church for the funeral. Apparently Mr & Mde Presidente are going!

Tuesday

On Sunday we took bread and cheese (well this is France) to Parc Buttes Chaumont for a pique-nique. Was full of families doing the same. There was a band up on a hill playing lots of music (Beatles, theme from Rocky, Mozart etc etc). Then we went to Centre Pompidou as it was free. I like Modern Art but some of it is just a little too strange for me. We had dinner backwards, ice cream first, meal after. Then met some people on Pont Des Artes and chatted for a few hours, watching La Tour sprakle every hour. I was exhausted today so didn't do as much as I had planned. There's an indoor market with gourmet food stands (although, what food in Paris isn't gourmet?) around the corner from the apart so I think I'll go early(ish) and get some nice food while I can still afford it!

Oh I went to the legendary Shakespeare & Co yesterday, for the first time. Amazing shop, think I'll definitely hand my CV in there.

*Rhino was in Pompidou, not S&C!

Sunday

Today is free museum day in Paris (thanks Sarkozy) so might go to Orsay again.... Also shopping for silly things on the Champs..... Sephora and Fnac. It's sunny today! My room still looks like a bare prison cell, so I need to spruce it up a bit.
Lyon was fun and was lovely to see the Petits, even if it was for less than 48 hours! We ate lunch in the sweetest little place that specialised in tartines. We shared (yes mum, I'm learning to share) one with Camembert et compote des pommes and a three cheese and pear one. Miam!

Friday

Well Sex and The City was good, both times! On Thursday evenings all the museums are free to students (18-25) so went to Museé D'Orsay. It used to be a train station. It's an incredible building, lots of awesome (in the proper sense of the word) art that made me wish I could draw something more than a stick figure. Gaudi's chairs were amazing. Being an old train station there were so many clocks.

I unpacked pretty much everything, but forgot to bring photos or anything nice for my room so I'll have to do what I do best and buy some things! I have to get my train to Lyon in a bit. My laptop still isn't accepting my password so I can't change the clock or anything which means I must remember not to rely on my comp for the time otherwise I'll be an hour late for everything!

Wednesday

I'm nearly packed and I'm not even leaving til Thursday.... Organised or what!

Sex and The City movie is out tomorrow, I'm so excited!
